Since it was built in 1897, Kingsbrae Arms has been a part of the town’s cultural history. These “cottages” as they were called, ranged in style from baronial to classical to whimsical, and were the anchors of the social season. Urgent gossip speculated whether Ellin would marry Irving Berlin (she did); or if Marguerite had danced with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales (ditto).
Perhaps the true lure of St. Andrews is the healthful salt air setting amidst the natural beauty of the surrounding islands and sea. Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt often picnicked at the shore of their nearby Campobello Island estate in the company of friends.
Today Kingsbrae Arms is something of a dream—a splendid country house once again receiving international guests in an atmosphere of warmth and friendly hospitality. Through the years, honeymooners have returned to celebrate anniversaries. Travelers who have roamed the world return again and again. Our goal is to make each person stepping through our front door for the first time a new friend.
